Rakim Mayers aka A$AP Rocky was born in Harlem, New York on October 3, 1988.

Rocky grew up in the tough city of Harlem, New York. His early years were rough, his father went to jail when Rakim was 12 years old for dealing. A year later his older brother was sadly murdered just outside of their apartment. After these series of events he and his mother spent a good chunk of time moving from homeless shelter to homeless shelter.

Rocky started writing rhymes at the young age of 8 years old but didn't start taking hip-hop seriously until he was 17. He grew up on UGK,Devin the Dude, the Diplomats, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony,and many others.

Being born in Harlem you would think Rocky would have a more east coast style but that is not the case. His style is smooth and breezy, the product of years and years of gorging on southern-fried raps as well as hip-hop styles from other areas such as Houston, Texas. You can catch him using southern lingo and drawing out his syllables in his rhymes. On his debut mixtape, LiveLoveA$AP,Stylistically, the mixtape pays homage to Ohio's
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Houston's chopped and screwed. -
ASAP Rocky's first album ''Live.Love.ASAP'' the album released this album on October 31, 2011.The mixtape's music incorporates stylistic and production elements of hip hop scenes distinct from ASAP Rocky's hometown New York.Rocky received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised the production aesthetic and his charismatic style.

Rocky's second studio album, "Long.Live.ASAP" was produced by ASAP Worldwide, Polo Grounds Music, and RCA Records on January 15,2013. ASAP Rocky had big name features on this album,kendrick lamar, Schoolboy Q,2 Chainz, ASAP Ferg,and many other.Rocky produced the album with the help from other high profile producers such as Skrillex and Danger Mouse. The album charted number 1 on Billboards top 200.
