    Bathyscape Trieste reaches the bottom of the Marianas Trench
    On the 23rd of January 1960, the bathysapeTrieste reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench 10,911 meters below sea level. This was the first vessel to reach the deepest point in the ocean. The two men Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh spent 4 hours and 48 minutes descending to the bottom of the trench. after passing 9,000 meters the outer plexiglass window shattered under the intense pressure. Yet the mission went on. After the descent the two men spent 20 minutes at the bottom of the ocean.

    Yuri Gagarin beame a hero of the Soviet Union on the 12th of April 1961 by becoming the first man in space. As Vostok 1 took him into orbit, Gagarian famously whistled The Motherland Hears, The Motherland Knows. The cosmonauts successful flight in space and return was considered a great victory against th United States of America in the space race.

    Australia Begins Involvement in the Vietnam War
    On the 3rd of August 1962 30 Australian advisers landed in Vietnam, marking the beginning of Australia's decade-long involvement in the Vietnam war. Australia, supporting it's American allies, entered the war on the democratic South Vietnamese side. This was the first war when Australian men had being conscripted into the army. Many young men burned their conscription forms in protest against Australia's involvement in the conflict.

    At the age of 36, movie star, Marilyn Monroe, was found dead in the bedroom of her Brentwood home. The coroner, Dr Thomas Noguchi,found that her death was caused by acute barbiturate poisoning. It was ruled that she commited suicide, yet a lot of people including officer Jack Clemmons, the first policeman to arrive on the crime scene, believe that it was murder. Marilyn Monroe's death remains a subject of many conspiracy theorys to this day.

    John F. Kenneddy, the 35th president of the United States of America, was assasinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding with his wife Jacqueline in the presidential limosuine. He is the second out of two U.S presidents to be shot to this day. To this day the official report claims that the president was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald although many conspiracy theorists claim otherwise

    Martin Luther King accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on the 1st of February 1964 for his role in campaigning for civil rights and racial equality. A civil rights caimpaigner and pacifist, Dr. King was an iconic figure in advancing civil rights in the U.S. through the teachings of Mahtama Gandhi. Through King's efforts as the leader of the African American civil rights group, he led the famous March on Washington where he gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

    The Indo-Pakastani war in 1965 was a series of light skirmishes between India and Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir region. The war broke out when the Pakistan launched a counter attack on the Indian forces who'd captured three important mountain regions after the Pakistani had smuggled between 26,00 and 33,00 troops across the border. The war ended when the nations Prime Ministers agreed to withdraw their troops no later than February 25 1966 at ceasefire conference held by the U.N. & S.U.

    England wins the soccer World Cup
    The eighth staging of the world cup, in 1966, was won by England after the 4 - 2 victory of West Gernany. At 90 minutes the score was drawn at two all, thus sending the game into extra time. Londons Wembley Stadium went up in cheers as England fans celebrated their victory after two goals in extra time, inluding a contreversial "Ghost Goal".

    First man to die on a space mission
    40-year-old Soviet cosmonaut, Vladimir Mikhaylovih, became the first man to die on a space mission when his spacecraft suffered multiple filures, inluding parachute, on the re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Just before impact, the premeir of the Soviet Union told him that his country was proud of him. Rumour has it that he died cursing the spacecraft designers and flight controllers.

    Launched on the 16th of July 1969, Apollo 11 became the first manned space mission to successfully carry humans to the moon. On the 20th of July, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. Apollo 11 space flight landing on the moon was considered a great victory in the cold war space race by the United States of America. John F. Kennedy's dream of beating the Soviet Union to placing a man on the moon were fufilled by Apollo 11, six years after his assasination.
