This was passed as part of the ocmpromise, act forced on federal official who didn't arrest the runaway slave liable to pay a fine. This was the most controversial part of the compromise, this increases the efforts against slavery. -

This book was the best seller, this caused a huge impact on how Northerners viewed the slavery. Abraham Lincoln realized that this event caused the outbreak of the Civil War. -

A new Republican party is formed. Anti-slavery across the North. This includes the whigs, free soliers, and democrats. Abraham Lincoln is the Republican leader in the West. -

This divided the Nebraska territory into Kansas and into Nebraska. Pro and anti slavery forces poured into Kansas trying to vote. -
Dredscott Decision
He believed that he should be freed because he was held as a slave, but he was living in a free state. The court thought that he couldn't be seen because he didn't own any property. The slaves owners were known as their property..this increased the fight against slavery. -
lecompton constitution rejected
Kansas and Nebraska act was passed. Kansas determinded whether it was going to be a free or a slave state, The Lecompton Constitution decided that Kansas could be a slave state. Kansas voterrs rejected the constitution because Kansas ended up becoming a free state. -

A series of seven debates that was between Abraham Lincoln and the Republican candidate. Moslty all seven debates were about slavery. -
John Brown raided Harper's Ferry
John brown led a group of 17 people, including 5 black members to raid Harper's Ferry. Their goal was to start a slave uprising using their weapons. -
Abraham Lincoln elected as President
President Lincoln decided that the South was becoming too powerful. They made it part of their platform that slavery wouldn't be extended to any new territories and or states added to the union.
