  • Jan 1, 1497

    1947 Vasco de Gama sails for India

    He began exploring east African coast. He returned to Portugal with a lot of money
  • Decline of the Mughal Empire

    Avrangzeb let over 2 million of his subjects die while he was at war, beacause of this he lost all of his respect.
  • Industrial revoloution in Britain

    Mostly small farms covered England's landscape. Many wealthy landowners.
  • Establishment of the British East India company

    Robert Clive led East India Company troops to a victory over Indian forces allied with the French at the Battle of Plassey. It became the the leading company in India
  • Sepoy Rebellion

    Problems increased and so did their feelings of resentment and nationalism
  • British overcome French and take control of India

    The area controlled by the East India company grew and evauntally it governed Bangledash most of Southern India and almost all of the territories near the Ganges.
  • Creation of the INC

    Growing nationalism led of the founding of the INC (Indian National Congress) and The Muslim League.
  • Creation of the Muslim Leauge

    an organization founded in 1905 in India to protect Muslim intrests. Members felt mainly Hindu Congress parties looked out for primarily Hindus
  • Amristar Massacre

    British Commander believed Indians were openly defying the ban and ordered to open fire on the Indians.This cause extreme anger across India.
  • Rowlett Acts

    These laws allowed the government to jail protesters without trial for as long as two years.
  • Mohandas Ghandi's leadership of the INC

    Ghandi endorsed civil disobedience and the deliberate and public refusal to obey an unjust law and nonviolence as the means to achieve independence
  • The Salt March

    Ghandi organized a demonstration to defy the hated Salt Acts. Indians can't buy salt from anybody except the British. Plus they must pay special taxes.Ghandi and others walked many miles along the coast collecting salt from the sea.
  • Government of India Act

    This provided local self-government and limited democratic elections but not independence.
  • WW2 riots between Hindus and Muslims

    British didn't know wether or not to give power to the Hindus or Muslims and Hindus had more power so Muslims created riots and killed many Hindus
  • Partition

    Partition was when the division of India was seperated into different Muslim and Hindu regions.
  • Indian/Pakistan Independence

    Granted India and Pakistan independence in one month. 500 princes decided what nation to join for power.
  • Ghandi's Death

    Hindu extermist thought Ghandi was to protective of Muslims and shot him.
