Kingdom of Denmark unified and Christianity is introduced. Denmark was a great power from 800-1100AD. The vikings of Denmark and King Canute united Denmark and England for almost 30 years. The viking raids brought Denmark into contact with Christianity.

The Bubonic Plague (then known as the "Black Death") arrived unexpectedly. Tradition has it that the plague came to Denmark on a ghost ship that beached itself of the coast of northern Jutland. It is estimated that 33%-66% of the people in Denmark died.

A historical Union of the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under one monarch (Queen/King). Denmark is the dominant power. They combined to be stronger against raids from other countries.

German took over Denmark under military control which lasted until WWII ended in 1945. Over 3000 Danes died. This picture is of Danish Soldiers - two of these soldiers died the same day this picture was taken.

Denmark becomes a member of the United Nations - an international organization made up of states and countries that are "peace-loving states". It was formed after WWII to maintain international peace and security.

A system of bridges and tunnels connecting Denmark and Sweden. Construction began in 1995 and opened to traffic in 2000. It is a road and rail bridge. Here you can see the bridge above the water then it joins the Drogden tunnel (immersed tube- underwater concrete tube) that has two roads, a railway, and an emergency tube.

Danes reject using the euro as their national currency by 53% to 47%. The chose to keep using the Krone. (The Euro was created to unify Europe - Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Lithuania, Finland all use the Euro)
