    The Homestead Act gave 160 acres of free land to anyone who would live on it and farm it for a period of five years in the west. Single women also took advantage of this.
  • Fetterman Masacre

    Fetterman Masacre
    The Fetterman Massacre was the most bloodiest battle. Army troops were manning a for on the Bozeman Trail, which was used for people to reach gold mines in Montana. A Sioux millitary leader, Crazy Horse, was used as a decoy and lured the troops into a deadly trap. He tricked the forts commander in to sending a troop of 80 soldiers in pursuit. Hundreds of warriors were waiting in the ambush and wiped out every single person in the troops.

    Discovery of 1874
    An 1868 treaty was supposed to bring peace. but tensions remained. This time the conflict grew over the black hills of the dakotas. The government has promised that no person that was white will ever try to attempt to settle or occupy that land. However, the hills were rumored to contain gold. In 1874, Custer led an expedition and found gold.
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    . George Custer is sent to round up the Sioux and put them in reservations and fighting breaks out. Custer underestimated how strong the Native Americans were and the Native Americans wipe out Custer and all of his men. U.S. citizens were shocked by the strength of the Native Americans.
  • Ghost Dance

    Ghost Dance
    Ghost Dance was a religious movement which was incorporated into numerous Native American belief systems. The traditional ritual used in the Ghost Dance was called the circle dance, it has been used by many native americans since the prhistoric times. In accordance with the prophey Jack Wilson teachings, it was first practice for the ghost dance among the Nevada Paiute in 1889.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    Wounded Knee was where the last bloodshed between the Native Americans and the United Sates army. It occurred in the late 1800's. The army had opened fire on the elderly native Americans, womens, and children and more than 200 Sioux died.
