    The homestead act took place in the plains. The goverment gave 160 acres of land to settlers who would stay for five years and pay a filling fee. This was a significant time because the goverment just gave the land away to people that lived there for five years and payed a filling fee. And also because over 12 percent of settelers were women. Yes married women could not own land but single women and widows could.

    In 1874 the goverment had promised that no white man or men were alowed to go over the black hills of dakota.These hills were rumered to have gold all over them. In the middle of 1874 a cluster made the U S armey go check on the rummers. The armey confermed there was gold. Prospecters ran to the area.The goverment tried to but the land off the sioux but sitting bull said no.The U S armey was told to round up all the native worriors but they rufused starting a war that the natives had lost.

    Sioux and the Cheyenne started a war with the American goverment. The U S armey was told to round up all the native americans and send them to a few big reservations which started the war between the two races. The natives lost and were sent to the reservations which had bad land and little water supply which had made it very hard for the natives to grow any crops for them and there animals.

    The ghost dance is know as a ritual that the wovoka said to the sioux would let them regain there greatness if they performed it.When the ritual spread around the reservation officals got alarmed and baned the dance. Sence sitting bull was the cheif the police said he was the leader of the dance And went to arrest him but sitting bull faught them, so he was shot on site. This started a fight and at the end 200 sioux and 25 soilders were dead. The native had lost the long conflect.

    After sitting bulls death hundreds of sioux fleed and meet back up a a creek called wounded knee in south dakota. On dec 29 the armey went to collect the siouxs wepons. Nobody knows how the fight started, But when a gun fired from the natives the armey returned fire. More than 200 sioux and 25 U S soilders were killed. This marked the end of the conflect between the natives and the whites. The native americans lost there long fight. And were finally defeated.
