The Homestead Act
This act gave 160 acers on land to anyone who lived on the land for 5 years and paid a filling fee. Thousands of people came including immigrants. Married women couldnt own land but single women and widows could. This took place in Colorado and Wyoming. -
Fetterman Massacre
The souix leader, crazy horse, acted as a decoy and lured the U.s. troops into a deathly trap. Many warriors were waiting in an ambush and killed an entire army. -
The treaty of Fort laramie
It was a fight between the U.S. govement and the native americans. They're was a treaty made that was suppose to bring peace with the Souix and whites. This took place in the black hills restervation on Dakota teriotory. If the U.S won, they wanted the indians to move more west on reservation. -
discovery of 1874
This confict happen in the black hills of Dakota. It said that "no white person or persons shall be permitted to settle upon or accupy." Later Custer confirmed the rumors of the gold were true in the mountains. -
Battle of Lttle Bighorn
This was took place at little big horn river in Montana. Sitting Bull was an important leader of the Lakota Sioux. Lakota and cheyanne won the fight and stayed on reservation, on Custers side, 250 soilders died. The goverment said "No white person or persons shall be permited to settle upon or occupy", no one was even aloud to walk through. -
Ghost Dance
The Souix Indian tribe had a special way to express their way of life that was slowly being destoryed. Police thought Sitting Bull, the leader of the tribe, was the head of this. He was arested and shot. -
Wounded Knee
This took place in Southern Dakota. A fight broke out between the army and and the Souix. In the end, 25 soilders were killed along with 200 Souix. THis war marked the armed conflict between the Native Americans and Whites.
