  • Homestead Act of 1862

    Homestead Act of 1862
    Gave 160 acres free to settelers who lived on the land for 5 years, and paid a filing fee. This brought settlers from all over. They earned ownership of the land by settleing on it.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho planned an attack on army troops at Bozeman Trail. The Bozeman Trail was used to get to gold mines in Montana. Chief Crazy Horse made a decoy and led the army troops into a deadly trap. Tricked cammanders to send 80 man as a detachment, all army troops were killed.
  • Treat of Fort Laramie

    Treaty said that they would live in the Dakota territory. Treaty was made to stop confict between whites and Sioux. Sioux won battle. Native Americans gave Sioux the Black Hill and the Native Americans promised to stop attaching.
  • 1874 Discovery

    Custer and his men discovered there was gold under the grass in the Indians territory. But Custer and his men where treasspassing on the indians land, and instead of the government doing as they promised, they tried to buy the land.
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    The government made a law that no troops could tresspass on the Native Americans land. Custer heard a rumor that there was gold in the ground on the Native Americans land. people started to come adn look for gold which got the Indians made. Instead of the government doing anything they just tryed to buy the land from them. Custer divided his men and attacked the Native Americans, he underestimated their strength. Custer along with his 250 men all died from the thousands of Native Americans.
  • Ghost dance

    Ghost dance
    A Native American siritual dance. This dance started to alarm the troops so they decided to ban it. The troops went after the chief, Sitting Bull, and shot and killed him. The Siox said the dance was to regain greatness.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    Happened at the southwestern part of South Dakota. The army went there to collect the Sioux's weapons. Fihting just started then there was a shot fired, after that shots kept on being fired. 200 Sioux's died and 25 soilders died. This ended the fued between the Native Americans and whites. Native Americans lost.
