  • Homestead Act of 1862

    Homestead Act of 1862
    The Government gave 160 acers to anyone who lived for five years on the land and paid a filing fee. This brought many people to the plains and pushed Natives off of their land.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    Crazy Horse,a Souix leader, tricked a forts commander to send out 80 troops to follow him. When they got to where the trap was set they were amboshed by hundreds of Native Warriors. This happened in Wyoming on the Bozeman Trail. Souix, Cheyenne, and Araphaho Nations were the warriors.
  • Treaty of Fort Laramie

    Treaty of Fort Laramie
    The Black Hills were given to the Souix Nation, but after many cinflicts with white men coming on to thier land and war was brought down on the Souix Nation, the land was confiscated. The despute of who should get the land still goes on to this day.
  • 1874 Discovery

    1874 Discovery
    The discovery was of gold in the Black Hills. The Laramie treaty was broken and Custer brought troops on the land which was off limits to white people. The Sioux protessted but the government didn't give them their land. Sitting Bull said, "I do not want to sell my land. Not even this much." as he held up a pinch of dirt.
  • Battle of Little Big Horn

    Battle of Little Big Horn
    Cheif Sitting Bull and Cheif Crazy Horse gathered Sioux and Cheyenne warriors at the Little Bighorn River in Montanna. Troops were ordered to gather the Native Americans and move them to reservations. Custer was to scout out the Natives, but Custer underestemated them. With Custers 250 soldiers, they faced warriors by the thousands and lost. Fun fact: Only one horse survived the battle.
  • Ghost Dance

    Ghost Dance
    The Souix was told to use this dance, which was said by Wovoka that it would bring back their culture. As the dance spread across reservations the white officials became alarmed and outlawed the Ghost Dance. It was thought that Cheif Sitting Bull was behind the dance was was to be arrested; but in the figh he was shot and killed.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    After the death of Cheif Sitting Bull they came together at a creek called Wounded Knee in Southwest South Dakota. On that day the military was ent out to gather all weapons that belonged to the Souix. It's unknown who fired the shot but when it happened the troops opened fire. 200 Souix were murdered along with 25 soldiers. This marks the ending of conflicts between the two ethnic groups, unfortunatly the Native American Nations lost their long, triring battle.
