  • Homestead Act of 1862

    Homestead Act of 1862
    It gave settlers a 160 acres of land for a filing fee and live on the land for five years. This policy brought farmers to the Plains to homestead. Single women and widows could also homestead land.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    A Sioux military leader Crazy Horse tricked the forts commander into dispatching 80 troops into a pursuit that lead into an ambush of about 100 indians that killed the entire disspatch.
  • Discovery of 1874

    Discovery of 1874
    In the Dakota mountains was rumored to have gold. One expedition led by General Custer confirmed there was gold quote
    "from the grass roots down".
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    General Custer wanted the glory of leading a major victory. He underestimated the indiands and the indians slaughtered 250 troops. The victory for the idians was short lived when they were sent to live on reservations and some flead to Canada. This is significant because greed cant make you fail.
  • Treaty of Fort Laramie

    Treaty of Fort Laramie
    For years the the fronties were filled with war untill.In the spring of 1868 a conference was held at Fort Laramie, in present day Wyoming, that resulted in a treaty with the Sioux. This treaty was to bring peace between the whites and the Sioux who agreed to settle within the Black Hills reservation in the Dakota Territory. US got them to surrender and the Native Americans got the Black Hills.
  • Ghost Dance

    The Dawes Act weakend the native americans cultures traditions. So in 1890 a prophet named Wovaka said if they would preform a ritual called the ghost dance it would help them gain greatness.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    This is where the Souix indians flead after sitting bulls death. When the Army went to collect Souix weapons a pistol shot rang out and soon after 200 more killing 200 Souix indians and 25 soldiers. This marked the end of the armed conflict between whites and Native Americans. The whites didnt like this.
