7.4 Teenage Pregnancy

    The number of teen pregnancies has risen over the last couple of years. We see it all the time. If someone is actually put in this position, they need to say safe and healthy. If you don’t you could cause problems to the baby and the mother. “Those who don't get proper prenatal care run the risk that such complications won't be detected or won't be dealt with soon enough” (page 10).

    “Many factors affect the development of a fetus into a healthy child, some which are beyond your control and others that are within your control” (page 11). Staying away or drastically cut down on things like smoking, alcohol, caffeine, drugs, and herbal remedies, multiple sex partners, chemical exposure, excessive stress, and depression. These things can be changed, and should be for your child’s safety.

    Other things that you can change in your life is to make our diet better. Whatever you consume goes to the child. “Good nutrition is crucial to a developing child, particularly getting enough folic acid. Lack of folic acid can cause birth defects” (page 11). You could also exercise a little but to to an extent that it causes problems.

    Usually when a teen becomes pregnant, they start to stop going to get education. That could cause the parent not being able to get a job as easily, which can cause the a long-term effects. The child will probably get sucked into this cycle. “This puts a continuing cycle of strain on society, especially social welfare programs” (page 12).

    Also, when a teen gets pregnant, they look for support from their community. It could cause them to look into getting help from government for housing and food stamps.

    When my aunt got pregnant, she really wasn’t happy. When she had the baby, she and her husband had to change a lot of their habits. The could be out all the time, and they also had to spend more time and money. I feel like this made them closer together.
