Louisiana Purchase
Thanks to Napoleon and Andrew Jackson, America doubled in size for only $15 million. Thomas Jefferson had made an amazing deal with France, 4 cents an acre. It added 15 new states to the US; Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. All becuase Napoleon likes to fight and needed money. Overnight the United states doubled in size for $15 million and only 4 cents per acre -
The Corps of Discovery
The Corps of Discovery was successful, yet failed. Lewis and Clark were looking for a waterway along the Missouri river to get to the Pacific ocean. They didn't find their Northwest Passage, instead they found tons of new plants and animals. Along their journey they needed a translator. They hired Toussaint Charbonneau, he brought his wife, Sacagewa. Sacagewa was very helpful; she saved many journals and important documents when their boat capsized. Lewis and Clark failed but succeeded. -
War of 1812
The war of 1812 was pointless. The war of 1812 has many nicknames. One of them is the war of poor communication. The war had ended with the treaty of Ghent. However, they still fought the battle of New Orleans. New Orleans was the biggest battle of the war. Yet, was still completely useless. Overall, the war of 1812 ended in a stalemate. Nobody won but it brought nationalism to the USA. -
Florida Territory
Disobeying orders can be fun, just ask Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson went to the Florida Territory to settle border disputes between Natives and settlers. Eventually Andrew Jackson decided to invade the spanish territory and get more land. After he overthrew the leadership we signed the Adams-Onis treaty and gave Spain $5 million dollars for Florida. Andrew Jackson invaded Flrida to get the USA more land. -
The Monroe Doctrine
America doesn't like non-americans. President Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine to keep people out of the Americas. He would consider it a hostile act if foreigners try to settle our land. Also, the land is off-limits to foreigners and the eastern hemisphere. It also stated that we wouldn't interfere with European affairs along as they did the same with us. Obvisously, we didn't want people messing with us. -
Indian Removal Act & Trail of Tears
Where are the indians you ask? They are in Oklahoma. They took the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. Tribes that left were the Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, Chicsaw, and Cherokee. Many died along the Trail of Tears and it was a very harsh trip. There is a legened that says for every tear shed a poppy grew where it landed. The Indian Removal Act was signed by Andrew Jackson. Five major tribes were forced from their homes along the Trail of Tears. -
Mexican & American War
The spanish was anti-slavery and didn't want slaves in their land. We offered to buy the land from them but they refused it. James K Plok ordered to take over the Californian ports cutting off supplies. We then went to war with the Mexicans and we won. We signed the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. We then bought it for $15 million. -
Texas Independance
Texas lost the battle of the Alamo in 1836 as well as all of their men. It gave Texans hope and at the next battle Texas swept Mexico and killed all of their men in return. They held a gun to General Santa Anna's head and demanded independance. In 1845 Texas was accepted into the USA. They believe the USA is lucky to have them. -
Oregon Territory
54'40 or fight! That was James K Polk's slogan when running for president. The 54'40 line of lattitude is where we wanted the border of the Oregon territory to be. After debate and negotiation we setteled with the 49 degree line of latitude. We didn't want war again so we just went with it. Once again James K Pollk got the USA more land.
