In particualr, from a political point of view the treaty of Elysee obliged France and Germany to always consult each other in important foreign relation decisions so that they reach a mutually favourable political position.

It was significant as it allowed a switch from operator based calling for when a person from Australia would need to call overseas and replaced the operator technology with a prefix system of number extensions so the call could be made directly by the caller through dialing the correct combination of a prefix and then the number in another country.
