  • Environment Affecting Personal Health

The book talked about many factors that can cause your health to be affected due to your environment. One example given was with having lots of mold and dust in the area. The book discussed how this environment can commonly cause individuals in the area to develop asthma or allergies. Some other environmental factors that the book talked about that can affect our health include water quality, food and source quality, and sights and sounds.
  • Environmental Factors and Personal Health Continued

We often times don't think about how the environment around us can affect us. For example, the book discussed that even factors that we didn't know about, such as having lead pipes, can cause us to have health issues. We need to be aware and think about the factors we could be facing so that we can make the healthiest decisions for ourselves to lead healthy lives.
  • How Can Genetics Impact Our Lives?

Genetics can impact our lives because they make up who we are. The biggest example the book talked about of how genetics can affect is through genetic mutations. Genetic mutations are an error in the code of your genes that can result in you either being a carrier without any prominent side affects, or an individual who is greatly affected and experience the side affects of the mutation. These can alter how we are, and our physical capabilities in life.
  • An Individual I Know Affected By Genetic Mutation

I have one friend who experienced a genetic mutation that resulted in them aging an extra 21st chromosome, resulting in Down Syndrome. This mutation has definitely impacted their life. The individual does not have the same educational abilities as other students, they are more reliant on their parents and family, and they do not progress and mature/change at the same rate as everyone without their situation. Although they have this life changing issue, they still love to do things others do.
