Black Death
The Black Death was a catastrophic event that happened in the middle east in 1347. It wiped out upto 60% of Europes population. It is thought that people coming from Caffa, to messina, brought the disease with them. Actually what happened is the rats that were on the ships had fleas in them, when the fleas were released on the mainland the disease spread extremely fast. -
Creation of the Suez Canal
The suez canal was created in 1869. This canal went goes right through Africa that way people didnt have to take all the time to sail all the way around the huge continent. This made it so ships and people would be able to have better acsess to the outside world. It also made it so new people and trade would come into that part of Africa. -
Israel declares independence
In 1948 israel declared independence. They were trying to establish a jewish homeland. The first day they were independent they went to war. Since 1948 they have been at war almost 100% of the time. This is signifigant because now 40% of the worlds jewish population live in israel. -
First Arab-israeli War
This war was going to be the first of many wars between these two countries. The war was the concequence of the Arab rejection of the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine. It is signifigant because it is the first of many wars between these two. -
Egypt takes suez canal
Egypt took the Suez Canal from the British & French. Israel took advantage of the situation & attacked Egypt with Britain, & France. America opposed it, so Israel pulled back from their attacks on egypt.This just goes to show was some countries will do for land. It is signifigant because all these countries are fighting for one little trade spot. -
Six day War
The six day war was a war between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Morocco. This war happened because Egypt expelled the UNEF from their country. The unef is the peacekeeping force that had been there for ten years. Israel attaked them and captured Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. Israel still owns this land today and capturing it in 67 was a smart move cause they still use it today to threaten other countries. -
Saddam Hussein inherites power
In June1979 Saddam inherits power over iraq. This is the start of his ruthless dictatorship. This power he inherited will forever change the government of iraq. Saddam was removed from his position in 2003 when he was captured. -
Camp David accords
After twelve secret days of negotiating at camp david the Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed peace treatys. They were witnessed by Jimmy Carter. This is signifigant because it shows us that two countries can talk together and work things out without just bombing eachother. -
Iran/Iraq War
Iraq invaded Iran for two reasons, 1 it wanted to be the Leader of the Arab world. 2 Iran is an oil rich providence and iraq wanted their oil. This war caused huge amounts of deaths on both sides. In the end this war did not change the area that either country owned, it just caused massive amounts of death and economic problems. -
Hammas Formation
Since their formation they have been terrorizing Israel and all the people in Israel. They are also responsible for a ton of the bombings in the country. Israel and Hammas are constantly going around in circles bickering with eachother trying to see who will blow the other one up first. The reason this is signifigant is because for the past 20 years Israel has been terrorized and bombed by this same group, and they cant do anything about it. -
Gulf War
The gulf war started when Iraq invaded Kuwait. They had been threating eachother until finally one invaded the other. A good amount of countries jumped in and helped aid kuwait and helped to drive out the Iraqis. This war helped to bring out the common hate for iraq. It also gave the united states an opportunity to become allies with other countries fighting against Iraq. -
Israeli Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated
The prime minister wanted to sell/ give some of their land to another country and the people of israel revolted.Thsi is signifigant because it shows you that the people of these countries have no problem killing their leader if he doesnt do what they want him to do. -
9/11
On September 11th 2001 4 planes were hijacked by 19 terrorists. Most of the terrorists originated from Saudi Arabia. One plane hit the Pentagon, one plane hit the South Tower of the WTC, and one plane hit the North Tower of the WTC. Almost 3,000 people were killed in this catastophic event. This attack is one of the causes of the invasion of Iraq and Afganistan. -
Invasion of Iraq
The united states lead an invasion along with the united kingdom. Iraq was told to disarm their WMD's. Iraq disobeyed their orders and the united states had no choice but to enter. This war is still going on today. It has had huge effects, it has cost billions of dollars, it has killed thousands of people, and it has put the whole world on high alert. Although it has had devastating effects, it has also had good effects. For example Saddam was captured and executed, and iraq is rebuilding. -
Saddam Hussein's execution
Saddam Hussein was hung by the neck on December 29th 2006. He spent the last three years of his life in captivity. During those three years of being held in an United States prison he had been broken and confessed to multiple crimes. He was executed for various crimes against humanity. He had killed thousands of people over the timespan that he was dictator of iraq. After the toppling of the Iraqi government the citizens were given aid and were given supplies to help rebuild their government.
