    Passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990
    The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a law enacted by the U.S. Congress on 1990, and signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26th. It is a law designed to shield against discrimination based on disability including protections similar to those of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which protected against discriminations based on religion, race, sex, national origin, etc. The ADA also requires employers/public to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities.

    Arrest and Trial of Jeffrey Dahmer
    Jeffrey Dahmer, AKA the Milwaukee Cannibal, was a serial killer & sex offender, who committed the rape, murder, & dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 & 1991. Many of his later murders also involved necrophilia, cannibalism, & the permanent preservation of human body parts. He was arrested on the night of 7/22/91 in his apartment after a victim ecsaped. His trial took place on 1/30/92. He pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. He was not believed to have a mental disability.

    President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court of the U.S. to replace Thurgood Marshall, who had announced his retirement, however many women's groups and civil rights groups opposed Thomas on the basis of his conservative political views. But, public opinion polls showed that the vast majority of those polled were on Thomas' side and he was confirmed by the Senate with a 52 to 48 vote on October 15, 1991, the narrowest margin for approval in more than a century.

    After a physical before the 1991–92 NBA season, Magic Johnson, a retired American pro basketball player who played point guard for the LA Lakers of the NBA for 13 seasons, discovered that he tested positive for HIV. He announced this news at a press conference in November 1991, saying he would retire immediately. Johnson later acknowledged that it was contracted through having multiple sexual partners during his playing career. Johnson's HIV announcement became a major news story in the U.S.

    U.S. Soldiers in Somalia/ Black Hawk Down
    The Battle of Mogadishu was fought on the 3rd and 4th of October, 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia between forces of the United States, supported by UNOSOM II, and Somali militiamen. The initial U.S. Task Force Ranger, was dispatched to seize 2 of Aidid's high-echelon lieutenants during a meeting in the city. The intitial operation was intended to last an hour, became an overnight standoff and rescue operation thru October 4th. 2 U.S. Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by RPGs.

    Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement
    The North American Free Trade Agreement is an agreement signed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America. A trade bloc is a type of intergovernmental agreement, often part of a regional intergovernmental organization, where regional barriers to trade, (tariffs and non-tariff barriers) are reduced or eliminated among the participating states. Clinton signed it into law on December 8, 1993, and it went into effect on January 1st, 1994.

    O.J. Simpson Trial
    O.J. Simpson, a former NFL star and actor, was tried on two counts of murder for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and waiter Ronald Lyle Goldman. This case is known as the most publicized criminal trial in American history. In 1995, the criminal trial of O. J. Simpson was televised for 134 days. Finally, on October 3, 1995, Simpson was found not guilty.
  • Million Man March

    Million Man March
    The Million Man March was a massive gathering of African-American men in Washington, D.C., on October 16, 1995. The march took place at the National Mall and was called by Louis Farrakhant. The committee invited many prominent speakers to address the audience and “convey to the world a vastly different picture of the Black male,” and to unite in self-help and self-defense against economic and social ills plaguing the African American community. An estimated 400,000 people attended the march.
  • NATO Bombing of Yugoslavia

    NATO Bombing of Yugoslavia
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) military operation against the Serbian people and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. NATO claims the operation was made to stop human rights abuses in Kosovo, & it was the 1st time that the organisation used military force without approval from the UN Security Council. The air force striked lasted until June 10, 1999. The 1999 bombings led to the withdrawal of Yugoslav forces from Kosovo. Killed between 489-528 civivilians.
  • Columbine High School Massacre

    Columbine High School Massacre
    The Columbine Massacre was a school shooting that occurred at Columbine High School in Columbine,an unincorporated area of Jefferson County in Colorado. There were shootingsand complex & highly planned attacks involving a number of bombs. The shooters, senior students Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold, murdered 12 students and 1 teacher. They injured 24 others. The pair then committed suicide. The massacre is reported as "the deadliest high school shooting in US history."
