  • Invention of the Telephone

    The first telephone patent was granted to 29 year old Alexander Graham Bell in 1876.
  • Battle of the Little Bighorn

    The Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought near the Little Bighorn River in Montana territory, troops were led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer against a band of Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Tensions rises between theses two due to the discovery of gold on Native American lands.
  • The Compromise of 1877

    The Compromise of 1877 was an informal argreement between the southern democrats and allies of thee Republican Rutherford Hayes, to settle the result of the President election in 1876. This marked the end of the Reconstruction era.
  • Immigration Act of 1882

    The Immigration Act was a United States federal law signed by President Chester A. Arthur. This levied a head tax of fifty cents on each immigrant and blocked the entry of convicts, requiring immigrants to learn English in order to become naturalized citizens.

    The Sherman Silver Purchase Act was passed by U.S Congress to supplant the Bland-Allison Act of 1878. This required the secretary of treasure to purchase each month 4,500,000 of silver. The Act also Increased the governments monthly purchase of silver by more than 50 percent.

    The Treaty of Paris also known as the peace treaty was signed by Spain and the United States that ended the Spanish American War. The terms of the treaty also ended the age of Spanish imperialism and established the United States as a world power, The Treaty of Paris formally ended the American Revolutionary War.
  • The Open Door Policy

    The Open Door Policy was a statement of principles initiated by the United States. The policy was created by John Hay in order to allow the U.S, Japan, and select European countries equal trade with China. It called for safety of equal privilleges for all the countries trading with China and for the support of the Chinese territorial and administrative integrity.
