    John Brown was a radical abolitionist that was from Connecticut. He would be most known for the Raid on Harpers Ferry, after that failed, he would be executed and become a martyr. This would further divide the North and South, as it would show them the extremes that some of them would go to take their slaves.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin

    The Uncle Tom's Cabin would be a noel that was released and with it came great controversy. The story would follow a slave by the name of Uncle Tom, the slave would end up being whipped to death. The Northerns loved the novel and the Southerns would be outrage due to it painting slavery this way.

    The Republican Party would be created to combat the expansion of slavery. More specifically to take care of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The North would finally have a party that they could organize behind to show their dislike for slavery and would divide them further from the south.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act would be a change in policy. As the creation of the two states had occurred, rather than them becoming free state due to the Missouri Compromise, they were allowed to vote on the issue. This would be called popular sovereignty. But it would cause issues as proslavery and abolitionist would rush to the territories to sway the vote, in turn they would begin to fight. This would further divide and show that the two sides could solve this issue peacefully.

    Bloody Kansas was caused due to the popular sovereignty. The reason being that both Northerns and Southerns would rush into Kansas and try to sway the vote. But they would it end up in violence. Furthering the gap in their decision on this topic.

    The Brooks-Sumner incident was a fight between Senator Charles Summers and Representatives Preston Brooks. Preston would use insults which got angry enough to beat him with a cane. This would rile up both sides and the Northerns believed that the Southerns couldn't keep their temper, and the Southerns would support the beating. Even sending him more canes.

    The Election of 1856 which would be focused on the policies. Democrat James Buchanan against Republican John C. Fremont. They would debate the Kansas-Nebraska, Compromise of 1850, and the Missouri Compromise of 1820. This would show the different tactics that the Northerners and Southerns would uses to spread what they would believe.

    Dred Scott would be known for his case against Sanford. This reason being because he was a slave in a free state. So, he believed that he could sue for his rights. But the Supreme Court would later tell him that due to him being African the court ruled he wasn't a citizen, therefore couldn't sue for his rights. This would show the Northerns that the government could really decide who was and wasn't free.

    The Speech was given by Abraham Lincon. The reason for its importance was due it is teasing the idea of them being separated. The reason for it being that at the time many state were thinking of seceding. The word a House Divided. This would further dull the relationship between the two sides.

    The Lincoln and Douglas Debates would take around 2 months to finish up. They would consist of 7 different sessions. These sessions would cover a multitude of topic ranging from the Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, Missouri Compromise, popular sovereignty, slavery and its expansion. These sessions would make it clear that the North and South couldn't agree.

    The Constitution was created as a mean to justify and grant slave owners. This Constitution was tried to be made a Law but was rejected twice, and later Kansas would be a free state. The Northerns showed the Southern that slavery would not expand and it further stained the relationship.

    Harper's Ferry Raid was one orchestrated by a radical abolitionist, John Brown, and their plan was to break into a federal armory located in Harper. This was one of the first step of John Brown's plan to free the slaves of Maryland and Virgina. Unfortunately, they were caught and fought with troops under one Robert E. Lee. John survived and was later executed for treason. This would create tension between the South and North, due to it showing how far some abolitionist would go.

    Secession is, in the United States, most famously known for what happened after Abraham Lincon would be put in office. As 11 slave states would secede from the Union, cutting their ties from the United States. This would truly show how divided that the Northerns and Southerns were went it came to this one topic. This would be marked as the beginning of the Civil War.

    The Election of 1860 would be between two democrats, both of them being on the opposite sides on the debate of slavery. Abraham Lincon and Stephen a. Douglas. This would really pin the two sides of the United States against each other. Northern versus Southern.
  • Lincoln's 1" lnaugural Address

    Lincoln's 1" lnaugural Address

    The Inaugural Address would be a huge deal. As this would really landmark the beginning of the civil war. As Lincon won the election, not a month later the first state would secede. This would be the thing to break the camel's back. Both Northerns and Southers would be completely divided and later would fight for who was truly right.
