    Mexico gains independence from Spain
    In 1821 Mexico finally gained independence from Spain and founded Tejas under the Mexican mission system. Many American "moral families" move to Tejas, and in moving there they agree to follow their laws and practice only their religion. After all the Americans move there, there is a a 6:1 ratio of Americans to Tejanos.
  • Americans start getting frustrated with Mexico

    At some point in 1929 Americans (that were living in Tejas) started getting frustrated with having to follow every Mexican law and only being able to follow their religion. It is said that the Americans thought they were superior (over the Tejanos) so, they decided to try to talk to Mexico about it. In response Mexico closed any form of American immigration, forced the Americans to pay more taxes, and sent more Mexican troops to watch over Tejas (and to watch the Americans).
  • Mexico Abolishes Slavery

    In 1829 Mexico finally finished the ban of slavery. Although the banning of slavery was officially put in the Mexican constitution in 1824, the last slaves were freed in 1929. In 1929 the first parcial African-American president was also elected in Mexico.

    Steven Austin is Jailed by the Mexican President
    Steven Austin was a advocate for the independence of Tejas/Texas and decided to go to the Mexican president to talk to him about considering to let Texas break away and be an independent nation. In response the President sent the Mexican government after him, and he was arrested in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. He was then taken to Mexico city and jailed. (He was arrested for treason, but was released 8 months later in August 1834).

    The Battle of the Alamo was fought in San Antonio. This battle was somewhat short as it only lasted 12 days, but by the end of the 12 days all the Texas men were dead. They were either killed in battle, executed, or kidnapped and then killed.

    After the battle of the Alamo there came another battle between the Texans and the mexicans. This time the Texans used the war cry "Remember the Alamo!" In just 18 minutes the Texans killed over half of the Mexican army. The Mexican army retreated and a treaty was signed that gave Texas freedom. Texas was now the "Lone Star Republic".

    In 1845 Texas finally became a part of the United States. They entered the union as a Slave state, which means that another state had to enter as a non-slave state.

    In 1846 General Steven Kearny led an army through the Santa Fe trail to New Mexico. Mexico almost immediately gives up New Mexico, so we didn't have to fire even one gun shot. Although we had gotten New Mexico it didn't officially become a state until 1912.
