South leaves the North and the south attacks fort Sumter. War over States rights, slavery, and proper representation. -
President Abraham Lincolns famous proclamation against slavery after the battle of Gettysburg. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." -
The civil war ends with General Lee's surrender at the Appotamaxx house. Confederate troops throw down arms and fighting begins to stop. Abe Lincoln assassinated soon afterwards.
