Thomas Jeffersons presidency was from the year 1801 to 1809. During his presidency he slashed Army and Navy expenditures, cut the budget, eliminated the tax on whiskey, and reduced the national debt by a third. Whilst President Jefferson was responsible for the Louisiana Purchase and it was considered one of his greatest presidential accomplishments. -
The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase made by President Thomas Jefferson from the French. This was a purchase of a lot of land in the West. This purchase doubled the size of the United States. -

The California Gold rush was sparked by the discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley in early 1848. As news spread thousands of prospective gold miners traveled by sea or over land to San Francisco and the surrounding area. A total of $2 billion worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush which peaked in 1852 -
The compromise of 1850 was a compromise made by Henry Clay. It was made because Missouri wanted to come in as a slave state but it was up towards the North. Henry Clay made the compromise of 1850 which stated any states below the 36 30' parallel would be admitted as a slave state any state above the line would become a free state. -
The Fugitive Slave Act was part of the Compromise of 1850. The act required that slaves be returned to their owners, even if they were in a free state. It also made the federal government responsible for finding, returning, and trying escaped slaves. -
The Civil war began April 12th, 1861 and ended May 10th 1865. It was a series of battles fought by the North and South. The civil war was caused by deciding whether to abolish slavery or to keep it. The American Civil war was a very hard time for the U.S. we lost many people fighting in it.
