    John Ross and Major Ridge established a Cherokee nation, but then the government passed the Indian removal act, in 1830. This made the Cherokees leave and it was forced by the military and because the weather was so horrible that on the way out, it resulted in over 4,000 Cherokee Indians ending up dead. GA ecyclopedia
