My birth
This was the magnificent day that my parents were blessed with me. I was a contribution to the 5 basic needs of my parents. They now had a young to train and to mold into what they wanted me to become. I was also starting the cycle over because now I had to obtain the 5 basic needs as well. -
My first word
I said my very first word, which was mommy. This would be considered conforming to a norm because as a young toddler you are expected to talk and are viewed as having problems if you do not. -
I took my first step
I was about one years old when I took my very first step. This could be an example of socail control because as parents try to teach their kids how to walk they give them an incentive to succeed. It is normal to begin walking at around the age of one and if that does not happen there is an assumed problem with the child because he/she has not conformed to the typical norms yet. During the early years of a kids' life they must receive some type of reward in order to push forward in their goal. -
My first sibling was born. It was a boy!
This even relates to social interaction because before my brother was born I was always the center of attention, and after I had to learn how to behave with another kid around. -
Kurt Cobain committed suicide
This is an example of suicide because Cobain killed himself due to his surroundings and lack of feeling like an individual. This type of suicide is called altruistic suicide. Cobain was more concerned with pleasing his fans with his music and had no true happiness in his own life -
I entered kindergarten
Entering kindergarten would be considered socializing under a social institution because I was now being educated under the government. The school was the agent that taught me how to behave in society. -
Columbine shootings
Two high school boys went into their school with guns and killed many who were in their path. This is an example of juvenile deliquency because since they were teenagers their crime was viewed differently by the society. -
World Trade Center attacks and crash in Pennsylvania
There were planes hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the world trade centers wounding and killing many. On that same day there was a hijacking of a plane that later crashed in Pennsylvania, the pilot of that plane was my neighbor. This act would be considered a crime because the deviant behavior of the terrorists was taken to the next level and defied laws that were set in place. -
Enron scandal!!
Many of the debts and socail losses that the company experienced were not recorded in its fianancial statements shich caused the company to plunge. This event is an exapmle of a white collar crime because it did not directly affect a person but it was unethical for the company as a whole to do. The people who had control abused their power and cost the whole company their jobs. -
I got my braces on:(
This was the worst day of my entire life! This relates to agents of socialization, specifically the adolescent stage, becasue during that period in you life you are trying to discover who you are and part of that isgoing through struggles such as getting braces. During the adolescent period of life you are usually emotional and my braces definitlely contributed to that. -
The day of my baptism
I was baptized at Chatfield Reservoir with my dad, my sister, and my brother. This is an example of values because this is the day that my morals and faith became my own. They were a reflection of what I had been taught during my life at chirch and through my parents. -
Started High School at Front Range Christian School
Entering high school is an example of social status because as you enter into high school you are expected to act more mature since you are not a kid anymore. You want to be accepted by the upper classmen and will do almost anything to obtain that. -
My first high school dance
I went to my first high school dance as a freshman, and from that day on the pattern of high school dances began. Dances are a social pattern followed by every high school student because that is what has become important for students of our culture. When a new year roles around the first thing on everyone's mind is the homecoming dance and it does not change throughout your whole high school career. -
I got my first cell phone
I got my very first cell phone for my fifteenth birthday! Cell phones play a huge role in the industrial society because they are the center of our communication. Once I got my phone I was on it non-stop texting and had now become a part of our technological based society. Today we believe cell phones help to run our lives and we would be lost without them. -
Saddam Hussein was hanged
Saddam Hussein was hanged in front of many for his crimes against humanity in the mass murder of Shiite men. Hussein had many trials before it was decided that he would receive the form of punishment known as retribution. Since his crime was so incredibly harsh, Bush believed that he deserved an equal punishment for his actions. -
I got my license!!
I got my dad's car once I turned 16! This is considered self reliance because I no longer had to rely on my parents to drive me to my social gatherings, I could drive myself. I was now more independent. -
I got my first job!
I was hired at the Garlic Knot! It was my very first source of income in the working world. I now was able to provide for myself and have my own personal source of money. -
I started junior year at Dakota Ridge!
Since I was now a junior in high school my social ranking suddenly went up because now I was an upper classman. I also felt that I had a higher socail ranking because this was my first time in a public school. -
The DNC came to Colorado
When the DNC came to Colorado there were many different types of people that visited from all over to express and support their political views. This is an example of social characteristics because the people's actions and support, or lack of support, for the democratic party were shown at this event. -
First Black President elected
Barack Obama was elected our first black President in November of 2008. Since he was the first black President he had to become assimilated to the larger more dominant culture, which is that of whites. He has lived here in the United States, but since our country has never had a black President he had to adapt to their opinions and needs. -
Graduation!!!
I am finally graduating from high school!!!! This is a pracitce that has been developed by almost all in American culture today. It is a symbol of moving from one chapter in your life to the next. It has also become known as an honor simce so many years of school have been accopmlished.
