Formation of the UN
The charter was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and 45 other countries. -
The Red Scare
The HUAC (House Un-American Activities Commitee) was created to find Soviet spies and Communist sympathizers that have penetrated into the U.S. The HUAC also did some investigations into the Hollywood Ten, thinking they were helping the Communists. Joe McCarthy, a Senator, suspected several people in the goverment of being a Communist or working for the Communists. Also the HUAC and McCarthy were both violating Constitional rights. -
Berlin Airlift
Lasted from June 24, 1948 to May 11, 1949.
The U.S. dropped food and supplies into Berlin to help citizens and soldiers fight off the Soviets. -
NATO Organization
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organizations) is set up to constitute a system of collective defenses that representives agree on mutual defenses in responce to an attack from an external party. -
China going Communist
Mao Zedong established the Communist Party of China after a vistory in the Chinese Civil War. -
The Korean War
The Korean War is a conflict between North and South Korea, which were seperated by a border named the 38th parallel. It was mostly a proxy war between the U.S. and the USSR. The war didn't have any winners or losers during since it kept on going back and forth until a stalemate was reached at the 38th parallel. The fighting ended July 27, 1953 when the Armistice was signed to end the fighting.
