Formation of the UN
The United Nations (UN) started in 1945 with 50 members and becomes an arena for the Cold War. -
Red Scare
The second Red Scare took place after WWII, and a fear of Communism grew. Senator Joseph McCarthy was a big part of the Red Scare. In 1950, he made a speech in front of a small audience with sheets of blank paper. He said that there were 205 names of Communists on those papers. Journalists asked for at least one name, but he refused. -
Berlin Airlift
British and American efforts fly food and supplies into Berlin during the Soviet blockade in 1948. -
NATO organized
The reason for the treaty is to protect the freedom and security of its member countries by political and military means. -
China goes Communist
From 1949 to 1958, the Chinese Communist Party wanted to establish socialism . It resulted in the Five-Year-Plan, an economic reform partially based on the Soviet model that clearly failed in the agricultural country that China was. -
Korean War
The Korean War was a conflict bewtween Communists and Non-Communists. At the end of WWII Korea split into North & South Korea. The war consisted of the North and the South fighting back and forth. President Truman fired General MacArthur in 1951 because he violated the foreign policy in Korea then General Matthew Ridgway took his place. President Truman made a hard decision whether or not to enter the Korean War.
