    My Interesting Journey

  • Class Begins

    Class Begins
It was a cold, frosty day and I really did not feel like going back to class. This was going to be my last semester at BU and my motivation to work had decreased a lot during the break. On the plus side we had a speaker, John Evans. He talked to us about PLN's and sharing you resources. For most of us this was our first experience with this since our first year. John got us started on our "internet for educators" quest. Reflecting back on this, this was a great way to star the course.
  • Course Setup

    Course Setup
Today was the day that all of the expectations were give. Blogs and RSS were the topics of the day and I thought that they were really cool things to play around with. It was a great learning expereicne because I did not know too much about setting up a blog and using an RSS feeder. I plan on using a blog in some of my classes, but I want to "get on my feet" first.

  • Online Courses

    Online Courses
Howard Griffith came to steak to our class. He talked about web based courses within the province of Manitoba. What I took away from this talk was the need to have this style consist of face to face and an online component (Blended). These courses are a great resource and can offer teacher’s information if they are unfamiliar with a concept.
  • Social Media in Education

    Social Media in Education
John Finch came by today and talked to us about how to use social media in the classroom. Reflecting back I really like the idea about blogs in the classroom. I do not care for Twitter and Facebook use in the classroom, it is just my opinion. Students can connect/learn valuable information from using social media in the classroom, I cannot wait to see the results
  • Edcation and the Connected World

    Edcation and the Connected World
Dr. Glenn Gatin came to explain how to do online things with students. I look back and I did take some things from this presentation in a good way. Giving students a chance to do online education will benefit them in a good way. After this point I was starting for to from my own preferences about what to use in the classroom. One thing I did not care for was the Second Life program, It is just not my style.
  • Month Reflection: Pieces Coming Togetehr

    Month Reflection: Pieces Coming Togetehr
During my forst month in Internet for Educators I learned A LOT of stuff and really did not know what to think. I have never been a "tech" person so it was good to see some of things going on out there. I like the idea of socail media (except twitter and facebook) in the classroom. At this point I started forming ideas on how effectivly use technology in my classes.
  • Cool Online Tools

    Cool Online Tools
Today our powerful prof, Mike showed us some really cool tools and talked to us about Web 2.0. This class really opened my eyes to what I could use and how I can share the tools with my students. The one thing that concerns me is the fact that many schools block some of these sites. I think I will explore some of the options that Mike presented into my classes, to see which ones work and which ones do not.
  • Sharing

    Sharing
    sharing video
I watched the above video and took some time to think about would I be willing share the stuff that I create with strangers? This is still a really tough question to answer, in some cases yes and in some cases no. I am a firm believer that if you contribute in some way for form, the yes I am willing to share. However ,if teachers are scrambling because they did prepare, than I will be hesitant.

  • My Own Movie

    My Own Movie
I got the opportunity to create a short video showcasing my recent trip to Las Vegas. I used a program called Animito. It is a really cool program and I think that students could do wonders with it and you never know what they could come up with. I thought, if I could use it easily, then students could easily out do what I did.
  • What can I do Now?

Darren Kuropatwa came and gave a talk about what we has done and created in his classes. I liked what I saw from this man, I am going to try some of the things he suggested. During my career I would like to make many videos showcasing complex problems. I think that this will show students that nothing is too hard and it could show them my creative side.
  • Presentations

    Presentations
Watching all of the presentations were one of the highlights of the course, It was nice to see that every group did something different. It made me realize how many different ways people can present something, it is cool to be different. I am wondering if I gave my students a task like this how many different ways could they present something.
  • Month Reflection

    Month Reflection
As the semester comes to an end I took in so much information this last month. I know what I want to do in terms of technology in my classes at this point. I now have to implement them in to my classes to see which ones work well and which ones do not. It could get interesting.
  • A Final Thought

    A Final Thought
At last the end of the education program!! Looking back at my journey through this class, I have developed quite a bit. My views have changed and I am more willing to try new things, thanks Mike! I think this course was a really good experience for me as a professional and I am going to take what I learned here and apply it to my career. To celebrate this accomplishment I am going to post a photo of a Gorilla, my favourite animal.
