Although I obviously don’t remember this milestone, I still have a collection of books my parents read to me as an infant.

I read, Are you my Mother? by P.D. Eastman in kindergarten. It was an “aha” moment where the letters on the page amazingly turned into words I could read.

I truly disliked having to memorize portions of Shakespeare plays and reciting them in front of my class in 10th grade. I was so worried about memorizing that I lost the ability to analyze the deeper meaning of Shakespeare’s writing.

I spent 3 1/2 years of my life immersed in reading and writing activities. My love of reading grew during my undergraduate studies.

I seriously could be a professional student. An undergraduate degree wasn’t enough to fill my thirst for learning. Going into my graduate program, I was terrified of all of the papers and projects I would have to complete. It turns out, if you are passionate about a subject and have lots of choices in topics, writing isn’t so terrible.

I’m not sure where my teaching career will take me next. My youngest daughter will be starting kindergarten this coming school year. If all goes well, I would like to start working part - time in a school either as a paraprofessional or substitute teacher.
