  • The Enlightment

    The Enlightment
    The enlightment period was a time where people started to disbelieve in the divine revelation and relized that they had rights and could think for themselves. Authors such as Rousseau were a major influenece in the time and it was soon demanded that the government was run by a republic.
  • Imperialism

    Imperialism
    Imperialism is a powerful nation branching out their power and control by taking over less advanced colonies for their own. The British Empire was built by taking over many countries such as Australia and New Zealand. Many people where forced to give up their families after children were seperated, beliefs and land becoming slaves for the invaders.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    The industrial revolution was a period of time where there were major breakthroughs in the industrial world. Most people had lived the same for thousands of years working on farms, crafting goods or in retail. Machines and steam power were invented in the early 1800’s which led to new jobs and people all moving close to create big cities and factories. These machines could produce goods easily and cheap.
  • The Victorian Gold Rush

    The Victorian Gold Rush
    The gold rush in Ballarat around 1850 was a shaping moment for the state of Victoria. Many men and women travelled and settled around the area in hope of striking it rich. This new found gold was discovered just after the Californian gold rush but on a much larger scale. The mines yielded around 4 million ounces of gold which was found on shallow levels of the ground.
  • Making a Nation

    Making a Nation
    The people of Australia were able to vote if they wanted to be a federation and stay a part of the commonwealth. The commonwealth of Australia was passed on January 1st 1901. With the British taking over Australia many native Australians were killed from common colds and chicken pox as they has very weak immune systems and had never seen anything like that before.
  • World War One

    World War One
    The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife is what is thought to be what triggered the start of World War One. The Archduke was next line for the crown in Austria. Whilst on a visit to Sarajevo in June 1914 the Franz and his wife Sophie where shot to death by a Serbian organisation called Black Hand.
