    In 1939 Canada went into war for the second time in a generation. Thousands of indigenous soldiers and nurses volunteered for the war effort at home and abroad, serving with distinction in the Canadian army, navy, and air force. More then 7000 indigenous people volunteered for the war for a chance to escape colonial constraints and reclaim their warrior heritage.

    During WWII the soldiers went through lost of trauma, nightmares, sleeplessness, negative imagery, "flashbacks", problems with concentration, weeping, generalized anxiety, and distress caused by situations recalling the battle. Many of the soldier have not talked about their experienced in the war or of the effects of these experiences
