    He and his wife were both shot to death while visiting the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. Bosnian Serb Nationalist Gavrilo Princip was the killer. This then sparked a chain of events that led to the outbreak of WW1.

    An artillery attack wounded Leo at Belleau Wood. In an interview for “Veteran’s History Project,” he says he dove into their dugout but the shell still injured him. Leo then had to spend 2 months in many hospitals working on a recovery.
