    Around December the sounds of rifles firing and shells exploding faded because in a number of places there were celebrating in the trenches. The Germans were placing candles on their trenches and on their Christmas trees they also were singing Christmas carols. The British sang their own carols. Both sides where throwing rations across the opposing lines.

They were used to observe enemy troops. The most dangerous ships during WWI where the large ones. the metal-armored battleships called dreadnought. These ships had powerful long range guns.

    At the time in 1906, Lusitania was the largest ship. A German submarine sinks the passenger liner Lusitania. The shipped carried 1198 people 128 of them were Americans. At the time in 1906, Lusitania was the largest ship.

    Reacting to international outrage at the sinking of the Lusitania and more neutral passenger lines. Wilhelm suspends unrestricted submarine warfare. Attempt to keep the U.S out of the war. Also to prevent American supplies from getting to France and Britain.

    16 million animals were used during WWI. They were used for lots of stuff transportation, companionship, communication. They used horses, donkeys, mules, and camels to carry food, water, ammunition, and medical supplies to men in the front. They used dogs and pigeons to carry messages. Then they used canaries to detect poisonous gases. Cats and dogs were trained to hunt rats in the trenches.

    Tanks were first introduced during WWI. They were used to cross “No man's land” between the trenches. They had mounted machine guns and cannons. The first tanks were really hard to steer and where unreliable. But by the end of the year, they became more effective.

    British intelligence gives Wilson the Zimmerman telegram a message from a German foreign secretary. Arthur Zimmerman proposing that Mexico side with Germany in case of war between Germany and the U.S. but Germany had to promise to return Mexico the “lost provinces ‘ of Texas.

    Erich Ludendorff ordered him to attack the western front. And more land stretching through France and Belgium. Also through the swiss border and north sea. Knowing the Germans were about to attack the British reinforced their coasts as did the french to the south of Britain. The Germans intensified their attacks with elite storm troopers armed. The first day of the attack resulted in 21,000 British taken prisoner as the Germans advanced.

    He was at sea. Breakfast was oatmeal. They had all they needed to eat, he couldn't believe how people could stay on a ship for so long because it is so small. They inspect the ship every morning and they clean every party of the ships. He watched the waves and the moonlight and it was the best time of their life.

    He is in a camp.they have bunks made of 4x4. They have a straw mattress. They have to walk 200 yards for food. He feels like he lives in a palace compared to the trenches he was in. He said if you were in the hospital it is good there.
