On December 16th, 1944 in the Ardennes Forest Germany fought their last battle of the war. Their plan was to split the US troops by going through them and circling back around, closing them in. They almost won because they took the US by surprise but soon enough we were back on our feet and finally able to fight as needed. This is important because had the US not won this battle who knows what the outcome would've been, and how many more lives would've been lost -
On April 30th, 1945 while Hitler was holed up hiding in a bunker he had swallowed cyanide pills and then shot himself in the head, to avoid capture. This is important because this meant that the true end of a very terrible and traumatizing war was finally there.
