  • The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    He was invited to visit the capital of Bosnia, Sarajevo. He was informed of the terriost group the "Black Hand". The first time the Black Hand tried to kill the Royal couple was with a bomb but it failed the second time he shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This started World War 1.
  • Battle of Galicia

    Battle of Galicia
    This is a major battle bc it was between Russia and Austro-Hungarian. The Russian forces won and servery defeated and forced the Austro-Hungarian out of Galicia. This lasted a couple of days but it was still a major battle for WW1.
  • Eastern Front

    Eastern Front
    The eastern front was the longest trenches and they could not cover all the land. Germans started to use Navel Submarines. They sunk all British ships. The battle was between Russia and Germany. Russian army was unprepared. This battle ended on March 3, 1918.
  • Christmas truce of 1914

    They were sad that they had to spend Christmas away from there family. On December 24 1914 both sides put their weapons down and the enemy really did meet the enemy between the trenches. For a short time there was peace. The higher ranked generals disapproved of this truce.

    The first time a large-scale of lethal poison gas was used on the battlefield was by the Germans on 22 April 1915 during the Battle of Second Ypres. This battle lasted all the way to May 25 1915. Even though this killed off lots of allied troops they failed to exploit that adventage.

    A German submarine aka a U-boat shot a torpedoed at a British steamship. Killing 1,195ppl including 128 Americans on May 7th 1915.
  • Western Front

    Western Front
    The battle started in February 21st-December 18th 1916. This was the longest and bloodiest battle of WW1. Germany started the war to drain Frances forces out of man power and resources. They both used total war which means to use everything they had to win the battle in order to obtain victory.

    Lasted 10 months from February to December. The French against the Germans. This was also one of the longest, Bloodest, and most frecice battles of the war. French lost 400,000 troops and Germans lost 350,000 troops.

    This launched in June 1916 and planned in conjunction with Somme Offensive in the west, General Alekei Brusilov's campaign were essentially responsible for the ending the offensive capacity of the Austro-Hungarian military.

    Battle of the Somme
    A joined battle between the British and French aganist the Germans. They intended to achive victory against the Germans on the Western Front. For many in Britain, the resulting battle remains the most painful and infamous episode of the First World War.
  • Zimmerman telegram

    Zimmerman telegram
    The note revealed a plan to renew unrestricted submarine warfare and to form an alliance with Mexico and Japan if the United States declared war on Germany. This message to mexico was intercepted by British and passed on to the United States. This is the last straw for the United States of America first the sinking of Lusitania and now this.
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Bolshevik Revolution
    Russia withdrew from the war in 1917. No more Eastern Front. Launched a new offensive on the Western Front. The Revolution overthrew the imperial Government and placed the Bolshevik in power.
  • Battle of Cambrai

    Battle of Cambrai
    The British forces went into their positions during the night of 20 November 1917. The tanks successfully pushed through German defenses and took over 7,000 prisoners. However, the offence was halted due to bad weather and a lack of reinforcements.
  • Russia withdrew from the war

    Russia withdrew from the war
    Russian Communists (Bolsheviks) took power on November 7, 1917, having promised to withdraw Russia from the war. They signed a ceasefire with Germany on December 15, 1917. Yet, Russia formally withdrew from the war only with the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk on March 3, 1918.

    The treaty of Versailles
    This was signed on the 28th of June 1919 and it was the official ending of WW1. There was 4 ppl who worked on it they go by the big 4. Woodrow Wilson USA, David Lloyd George Great Britian, Geroges Clemenceau France, Vittorio Orlando Italy. Germany was not there. This demanded Germany pay 6,600 million.
