    Born August 26th , 1898. Him and his dad both went down to the place to an list (sign up) for the war but his dad (James L Glass) was refused because he was an engineer on the LMN railroad and that was considered to an occupation necessary to the war effort. But, Will was entered right away into the war.

    Through 1910-1914 the Germans increased their military defense by 73%. The country beside them was Frances and they only increased by 10%. France was threatened by them.

    They ate Salmon and apple and baked eggs every day. They had blankest and filled their beds and pillow cases with straw. They did not always feel well and usually wanted to go home but could not. He was lucky to go home at the time because they did not let most people.

    The Government wanted to control the flow of communication and information that was being told to others. Journalists were banned any reporting during the WW1. Most of the risked their lives doing so. The War Office was worried that if the Journalists were reporting that it and help the enemies. If any Journalists were caught then they had the penalty.

    Their was over 250,000 underaged men in WW1. The youngest boy was Sidney Lewis who was only 12 years old. The only reason he was able to join was because he lied about his age. Most of the underaged boys lied to get in. Some because they loved their country and some because of the poor conditions they lived in and want it to be better.

    On June 28th, 1914 at Bosnia The Archduke Ferdinand and his wife (Sophie) was assassinated. They were killed by a nationalist group called the Black Hand. They thought that Bosnia should belong to Sabria and not Austria Hungary. Which is where Ferdinand ruled.

    Most of the War were fought in the mud trenches. Miners would also dig underground tunnels and set off bombs behind their enemy's trenches. In Belgium the miners set of a 900,000lbs of explosives at the same time. It destroyed the German trench line. The explosion was so loud you could here the explosion from 140 miles away.

    During WW1 there was many face injuries caused by shrapnel. Shrapnel was the shell of a bullet or fragments of bomb shells, or just other object through out of explosions. A surgeon named Harold Gillies help shrapnel victims.

    On April 22, 1915 the Germans fired shells with chlorine gas at the Allied lines( Britain, France and Russia). This was the first time that poisonous gas was ever used in battle. It only happens to the French line and they were almost destroyed.

    This ship was owned by the British but held 100 Americans. America and the British were the closets trading partners. In 1915 the Germans announced unrestricted submarines warfare in the waters were the British were. All the Americans died and that caused a huge problem.

    On January 16th, in 1917 the British intercepted an encrypted message Zimmermann for Heinrich von Eckardt, that the German gave to Mexico. In the telegram is said the the Germans would provide military and financial supports for a Mexican attack on the United States. And said that Mexico would be free to annex. The British gave the telegram to the United States.

    He went to the University of Louisville for 2 years. Then he went to Camp Taylor for the Army. Next, he became an Officer trainer in the field at Camp Taylor. Last he was Commissioned to Caption (Major) in July 1942.

He stared join the military and army life in middles ages. he was very encouraging and was well known during the war and after. He worked very hard in life and made earned what he got, which was being a leader and being in charge.
