Preparations
Vast preparations for D-Day are going on all over southern England. And everyone is wating for this special hour of liberation. -
Landing Sites
Four sites were considered for landing: Brittany, the Contentin Peninsula, Normandy and Pas de Calais. Brittany and the Contentin Peninsula were rejected because the germain troops had been spotted there earlier that week and so did Pas de Calais a few days after. So Normandy was then chosen to be the landing site -

Germans restrictions
Even on this special day the Germans will not permit people to attend the May Mass in church after curfew in the evening. This service is held throughout the month in honor of the Virgin Mary, but has to take place before the curfew hour. -

The Germans placed three times as many police patrols as usual on the streets, filling the city streets with open trucks loaded with SS police, and installing machine-gun emplacements in front of every German military building. -

Gandhi freed
Two years before, Gandhi and his supporters refused to endorse war. India was not given its independence immediately. The British arrested him in Bombay on August 9, 1942 and kept him in prison for two years. He was released before the end of the war because of his poor health. -
Captain Randle taking the commands
On this day, at Kohima in Assam, a Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment attacked the Japanese positions on a nearby ridge. Captain Randle took over command of the Company which was leading the attack when the Company Commander was severely wounded. -

Preparation for France invasion
Supreme Allied Commander Eisenhower confirms June 5 as the date for Operation Overlord, the invasion of France. Wich finally occured on August 15.
