The Germans first use Poison Gas against Allied troops in April 1915. The gas could kill or seriously injure anyone who breathed it. A British officer described it as a gas attack. To protect themselves the Allied troops used Gas masks. -
The Sinking of the Lusitania
On May, 7.1915, A German U-boat torpedoed a British Liner call the Lusitania near the of Ireland. The sinking of the Lusitania angered many American public. Later it was learned that the ship was carrying war materials. A few months later a German U-Boat attacked the unarmed French passenger ship called the Sussex. So about 1,000 people died when the Lusitania sank, among them 128 people were American citizens. -

The Battle of Verdun was on of the worst wars in WWI. It started after the Battle of Marne when Germany, Great Britain, and France was in a stalemate.So Germany launched the Battle of Verdun on February, 21. More than 750,000 German and French soldiers were dead. -
Zimmerman's note
On January, 1917, A German foreign minister named Zimmerman made a secret telegram with Germany saying that Germany making an alliance with Mexico against the United States in the event the Americans entered the war. The Zimmerman Note angered Americans and set off a new wave of anti-German feeling in the United States. -

The Russian Revolution took place in 1917 when the peasants and working class people of Russia revolted against the government of Tsar Nicholas II. They were led by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet Union. -
U.S. Declares war
On April 2,1917 US declared war on Germany. They did that because Germany was destroying all of the Allied merchant vessels. Another reason it happen is in March 1917 when a revolution was started in Russia. The Russians overthrew the monarchy, which was headed by the Czar. So they set up a provisional government to fight the Germans. So that caused Russia to be an autocracy. So President Wilson declared war on Germany on April 2,1917. -
The war ends
Germany had formally surrendered on November 11, 1918, and all nations had agreed to stop fighting while the terms of peace were negotiated. On June 28, 1919, Germany and the Allied Nations (including Britain, France, Italy and Russia) signed the Treaty of Versailles, formally ending the war. -

The treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that brought World War I to an end. The Treaty ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
