Austria-Hungary's future empire, Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian assassin, on June 28th, 1914 in Saravejo, Bosnia. The idea of the assassination was to ruin Austria-Hungary's southern provinces so that they would combine to become a larger Serbian Union. On the same day, due to the death of the heir to their throne, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. </a> -
The Causes of World War IThis war was fought in trenches. Germany, USA, Soviets, Italy, and England were all included in the war. It was the first World War. World War I was the introduction to machine guns and poisonous gases. The war was mostly fought in Western European countries. The beginning set off that began the war was from the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.

World War I: BelgiumGermany invades Belgium, who was striving to remain neutral, on Tuesday, August 4th, 1914. Most of the world viewed this as an invasion of rights in a constantly neutral country. Germany this though in order to outsmart the French army. The sudden invasion of Belgium led to England joining the war in hopes of defeating Germany.

Posion Gas VideoThe Use of Poisonous GasThe Germans fired 186 tons worth of shells filled with chlorine gases at allied lines. That was the first recorded attack using large amounts of gas in battle. The result of using these hazardous gases nearly collapsed the French line. Within ten minutes, nearly 6,000 French soldiers died from the toxin. After though, the Germans were unable to advantage of the breach.

Sinking of the LusitaniaGerman submarines watched the waters of Britain in hopes of finding enemy vessels to sink. A German submarine sank the Lusitania, which caused a scandal in America. The ship contained 1,959 people, and 159 of them were Americans. The Germans then began their U-Boat campaign, and that led to a revolt of protests within the U.S. This event rushed Americans' desire to enter the war.

Romania Enters World War IRomania and Austria-Hungary had long since been in disputes of the territory of Transylvania. After war had broken out, Romania had remained neutral, but on August 18th, 1916, the Roman government signed an intentionally secret treaty with the Allies. On August 27th, Romania declared war against Austria-Hungary. They went to war with Austria-Hungary in hopes for the land on Transylvania that they'd always been fighting over.

German U-Boats Wars and Battles, World War IGermany gave an order to their army to continue the U-Boat Campaign in a stronger manner. They were told to sink all Neutral or Allied ships on sight. Within a short month's time, nearly a million's tons of shipping were sunk. Germans were positive that with all the sinking, they could force a surrender from the Bristish. The Germans resorted to this idea because they were desperate. They had been nearly defeated, so in 1917 they had to attack with new angles.

US Declares War on GermanyPresident Woodrow Wilson had conversed with Congress on April 2, 1917. They discussed the sinking of Lusitania, Gerny's declaration of unrestricted submarine warfare, and a few other set off events that led them to their meeting. The resolution that Congress was trying to reach took 17 hours. Msny different suggestions were brought to the table, but they finally found a decision. On April 6, 1917, they reached a conclusion. It was time to declare war on Germany.

Armistice- End of World War IThe Allied forces, including the British, French, and Americans, went out to the German border. In the process, the Allied Forces had recovered almost all of France (which was taken over by Germany at the time). They also recovered part of Belgium. The invasions led to positive outcomes.The Allies continued to advance and had a quick effect to Turkey and Austria-Hungary. Turkey signed the Armistice on October 30th, and Austria-Hungary signed it on November 3rd.

World War I- End of the WarSoon after Turkey and Austria-Hungary agreed to the Armistice, Germany followed as the last country to sign. The British had a blockade on Germany that led to starvation within the country. It was signed by Germany in Compiègne Forest, which displayed a final victory for the Allies. The Armistice was signed at 5 AM German time. The Armistice had to be continually renewed until a more formal peace treaty was then signed the following year. World War I had come to an end.
