  • Arms Race Begins

    Arms Race Begins
    The Soeviets successfully test and atomic bomb. The U.S soon panics as nuclear war now becomes a real threat. The two powers now were beggining to attempt to top each others weapons inorder to gain an advantage.
  • Egyption War

    Egyption War
    Egypt took over the Suez Canal which agered the west. Soon Great Britian and France attacked Egypt. The Soviet Union then threatned to fight on Egypts side, which led to the U.S convinsing the other nations to stop fighting since a bigger conflict could start.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    Vietnam soon became a divided country. The North was controlled by communists, the south was controlled by anti-comunists. The U.S entered the war on the southern side, hoping to prevent the spread of communism.
  • Cuban Revolution

    Cuban Revolution
    After Fidel Castro installed a Communist government in 1959. With communism being so close to the U.S, tension was high. The U.S attempted to start another rebellion with the Bay of Pigs invasion, but it was soon put down.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    Many East german residents began to migrat to the west. This was seens as an insult to communism and so the Soviets put up the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall seperated west and east Germany for many years.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviets installed nuclear missils in Cuba. This action worried the U.S and soon a deal was made. The Soviet Union took out the missils and the US removed their missills from Turkey.
  • Nuclear Testing Ends

    Nuclear Testing Ends
    John H. Kennedy favored limiting nuclear testing. After the Cuban missil crisis both sides where conviced that nuclear testing should stop. In 1963 both sides agreed to stop nuclear testing.
  • INF Treaty

    INF Treaty
    Ronald Reagen arms reduction with the Soviet leader. In 1988 both countries signed a treat which called for the elimination of certain weapons.
  • Berlin Wall Falls

    Berlin Wall Falls
    The Berlin Wall was a constint reminder of communism. When the Berlin Wall fell it represented the fall of communism.
  • Cold War Ends

    Cold War Ends
    A hardlined communist part held a coup d'etat on the soviet government. After the attack the Soviet system began to fall apart as the leader of the Soveit Union lost much of his power.
