    Archduke Francis Ferdinand Assassination
    Archduke Francis Ferdinand is assassinated. They (him and his wife) were shot to death by a Nationalist while visiting the capital of Sarajevo. Through this killing, a couple other events lined up. This sparked the start of World War 1, with Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia.

    Germany signed a secret alliance with the Ottoman Empire. Nations allied against Germany. These included France, Russia, Italy, and Japan. Joining Germany was Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria.

    Battle of Verdun begins. Despite being close, the German Forces call it off. The battle ends with 550,000 French casualties and 450,000 German. Skeletons are still being found to this day from the battle.

    The United States declares war on Germany. This was because of Germany going against its pledge over submarine warfare. Along with Germany’s attempts of Mexico allying with them to go against the U.S. The U.S. Senate voted to join the war efforts on April 4th. This took effect 2 days later.

    President Woodrow Wilson presents to Congress his outline of Fourteen Points required for peace. This was his idea and vision to maintain peace. This restored lands conquered during the war. As well as, freed the seas.

    The United States forces come out victorious in the Battle of Cantigny. They had captured the land of Cantigny from their opponent. With this win taken in, the U.S. was not ready to take advantage of this victor and send troops for a whole year
  • Attack of Meuse-Argonne

    Allied forces begin the attack at Meuse-Argonne. This will be the final offensive of the war. This war followed along the Meuse river. Ended on November 11, after being started back up.

    The peace conference begins in Paris. This was used to determine the peace after World War 1. At this meeting, the Treaty of Versailles was made. The treaty ending it all.

    Allied Forces and German representatives signed the treaty of Versailles. The United States signs the treaty of guaranty, pledging to defend France in case of an unprovoked attack by Germany. United States Senate fails to ratify the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty comes into effect on January 10th, 1920.
