  • World War 1 Begins

    Germany invades Belgium at the start of WW1. (Historical Significance) This was how Germany was planning to get into France through Belgium. (Historical Perspective) at the time it seemed the fastest way to get into france but they didn't know russia would moblize quickly.
  • The Battle of Ypres

    Germany fired shells filled with chlorine gas at allied lines. (Historical Significance) This was the first time large amounts of gas was used in the battle. (Cause and Affect) This caused a near collapse in the French lines but affected the Germans because the Germans still were unable to get through.
  • The Battle of Gallipoli

    The battle of Gallipoli was one of the allied sides great disasters thought up by Winston Churchill to get the war to end early. (Historical Significance) Winston Chruchill's idea failed and was a huge disastor. (Cause and Affect) The cause of this battle was to end the war ealry but affected in more than 200,000 casualties.
  • Passenger Liner Lusitania Sinks

    A German submarine sinks the passenger liner Lusitania. (Ethical Dimension) This wasn't an ethically right thing to do because although the Lusitania was a British Passenger ship and they were fighting agasint the British at the time, sinking a ship carrying innocent passengers wasn't justifiable. (Cause and Affect)this caused an international outrage and affected Germany use of submarines in war.
  • First Tanks Used

    The British use the fisrt tanks in war at Deville Wood. (Continuity and Change) Tanks are still used in war today but have changed overtime. (Historical Significance) This was the first ever tank used in battle.
  • Germany Limits Use of Submarines

    Kaiser Wilhelm suspends unrestricted submarine warfare, to keep the U.S out of War, but it affects Germany’s efforts to keep American supplies from getting to Britain and France. (Historical Significance) submarine warfare is unallowed unless ristricted. (Cause and Affect) The German submarine sinking the Lusitania and the affect is the suspension of unrestricted submarine warfare.
  • The Battle of the Somme

    French had severe losses at Verdun French had been taking severe losses at Verdun – to the east of Paris. To relieve the French, the Allied High Command decided to attack the Germans to the north of Verdun getting the Germans to move some of their men away from the Verdun battlefield relieving the French. (Historical Significance) This battle symbolized the horrors of warfare in WW1. (Cause and Affect) The cause of this battle was to relive the French but affected in many casualties.
  • Submarines Are Back

    Germany resumes unrestricted submarine warfare in Europe. (Cause and Affect) It causes the U.S be close to coming into the war this would affect in Germany being deafeated. (Historical Significance) The suspension on unrestricted submarine warfare was lifted.
  • First Turning Point in WW1

    British intelligence gives American President Woodrow Wilson the so-called Zimmermann Telegram, a message from German foreign secretary Arthur Zimmermann proposing that Mexico side with Germany in case of war between Germany and the United States. The historical significance is this causes the U.S to decided wether or not to go into war. (Cause and Affect) The cause of this was the Zimmerman Telegram and affects the Germans in wether or not they win the war.
  • Second Turning Point In WW1

    The U.S joins war on the France and Britain side. The U.S congress declares war against Germany. (Cause and Affect) The cause of this was the Zimmerman Telegram and affected in the U.S joining the war. (Historical Significance) The U.S joins war against Germany leading to the eventual deafeat of Germany.
  • The Battle of Vimy Ridge

    The battle of Vimy Ridge was when the four divisions of the Canadian Corps took up position at the base of Vimy Ridge, which was occupied by the Germans. They had to capture the Ridge to protect one side of the British army. (Historical Significance) This was the greatest battle led by Canada in WW1. (Cause and Affect) The battle caused Canadians to be seen as successful troops adn affected in Canada getting a better reputation in war.
  • Millitary Service Bill

    The Millitary Service Act was passed by Canadian Parliment in effort to recruit more troops by using conscription. (Cause and Affect) This caused many riots in Quebec which affected in many deaths. (Historical Perspective) At the time in war it seemed like a good thing to do because not many people were volunteering for war as seeing the war would continue for a while.
  • The Battle of Passchendaele

    The battle of Passchendaele was Sir Douglas Haig's attempt to break through Flanders, France. (Historical Significance) Sir Douglas Haig's attempt failed. (Cause and Affect) It was the thrid battle of Ypres adn affected in a way where neither side could claim victory by Sir Douglas Haigès plan failed.
  • The Battle of Cambrai

    The battle of Cambrai was a battle between Britain and Germany. (Historical Significance) This was the first battle where many tanks where used. (Cause and Affect) The cause was to take on the Germans from the back while the battle of Passchendale was going on, this affected in many casualties.
  • Third Turning Point in WW1

    The Germans sign a peace treaty with the new Bolshevik government of Russia. Peace on the Eastern Front allows Germany to move soldiers to the Western Front, causing serious problems for the French, British, and Americans. (Historical SIgnificance) Germany and Russia aren't fighting agasint each other anymore. (Cause and Affect) This caused Germany to gain large peices of land that once was Ukraine and Poland and affected in problems for the Allied side.
  • The Battle of Amiens

    The Battle of Amiens was the most decisive battle against the Germans on the Western Front. (Historical Significance) The Battle of Amiens was the first to include an all-armed attack, bringing together artillery, tanks and aircraft. (Historical Perspective) At the time the war then been going on for three years and it seemed considerable to have all-armed attack.
  • Kaiser Wilhelm resigned as German emperor

    Kaiser Wilhelm resigned as German emperor, ending hope for Germany to achive victory. (Historical Perspective) This seemed like the reasonable thing to do at the time because he saw that Germany was gonna lose the war but is also seeming as being a coward. (Historical Significance) He resigns as German emperor and moved to the Netherlands to live in peace.
  • War is Over

    The war was ended and an Armistice (an agreement between two oposing sides for a certain amout of time) came into effort. (Historical Significance) The first world war has finally ended after four years. (Cause and Affect) A truce was made by both sides and affected in the war being over.
