    The Lusitania departed on May 1st, 1915 from New York to Liverpool. Unknown to its passangers, it contained British war supplies in its cargo, which labled it as a threat to German Warships. This prompted the Germans to fire a torpedo and sinking the Lusitania on May 7th, 1915.

    First Woman Elected to Congress
    Jeannette Rankin was the first woman elected to Congress on November 9th, 1916. She was a Republican from Montana and was elected to serve in the House of Representatives. Upon her election in 1916, Rankin observed that she "...may be the first woman member of Congress, but I won't be the last."
