First convention
In Worcester, Massachusetts, the first National Women's suffrage is held. Many important women attend it -
15th amendment
the 15th amendment gives black men the right to vote. women wanted a 16th amendment that would allow universal suffrage. -

Civil war
The movement doesn't make any progress during the war. The women focus more on war efforts. -
NWSA
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony found the National Women's suffrage association. they push for women's rights and they were based out of NY. -
Women arrested
Susan B Anthony and many other women were arrested for illegally voting in NY. the court fined Susan $100 and she never paid it. -
Womens suffrage amendment
A women's suffrage is presented to congress. the 19th amendment is worded exactly as this amendment. -
NAWSA forms
two women suffrage groups join together. the national women's suffrage association and American women's suffrage association. -
Discrimination
Black women were still facing discrimination in the suffrage groups. some NAWSA conventions don't allow black women to attend -
Jeanette Rankin elected to congress
Jeanette Rankin from Montana is the first woman to be elected to congress. she was a former NAWSA member. -
Peacful Protests
Alice Paul and other women hold peaceful protests outside the white house. They're arrested and while in jail hold hunger strikes. -
Night of terror
gaurds at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia beat 33 women who were arrested for picketing. -
Presidnet Wilson supports suffrage
Rankin debates in the house on an amendment guaranteeing women's suffrage. Wilson changes his position to support a federal women's suffrage amendment. -
Waiting for ratification
the house passes the soon to be 19th amendment and the senate follows. now 3/4 of the states have to ratify it. -
19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment is ratified allowing women to vote. But some black women are still faced with discrimination in the upcoming presidential election
