    Seneca Falls Convention
    The Seneca Falls Convention happened in Seneca Falls, New York to discuss the role of women in society. Six lectures on various subjects were held over the course of two days to explain why womens rights were and still are very important.
  • National Womens Trade Union

    National Womens Trade Union
    This union helped gain women rights in the workplace including better pay and better hours. Since many unions at this time were only for men, this was a big achievement for women in the workplace.
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire

    Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
    The Triangle Shirtwaist fire led to the death of many women, which caused laws to be passed on the safety of workers. 146 workers died overall, and many more were left traumatized and injured.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    19th Amendment gave women the right to vote in the United States of America. It has been something every educated girl has known through their entire life, and something most men know as well.
  • World War Two

    On this date, the U.S. entered world war two, opening many jobs for women in the industrial sector which stayed after the war. Rosie the Riveter, the picture on the left, was iconic in getting women to put in their part of the war effort.

    This act made it illegal to pay a woman less money than a male counterpart for the same work. This was, and unfortunatlly still is, a common practice among workers due to the thought that women were not worth as much as a man.

    Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson
    Mechelle Vinson sued her boss because he had fired her after she had been forced to have sex with him. This case proved that if someone is discriminated on because they would not perform sexual favors for there superiors, it is unlawful.

    Betty Friedan basically started the feminist movement which led to many of the achievments gained by women. The womens right's movement got everything women have today that they did not at some other time.
