The Progressive Era begins. Women from all classes and backgrounds enter public life. Women's roles expand and result in an increasing politicization of women. Consequently the issue of woman suffrage becomes part of mainstream politics. -
Voting Rights for Women
The National Women Suffrage Association and the American Women Suffrage Association merge to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association . As the movement's mainstream organization, goes state by state campaigning to make sure that all women will have the ability to vote. -
Olympia Brown
Olympia Brown founds the Federal Suffrage Association to campaign for woman’s suffrage. Brown formed the Federal Suffrage Association in 1892, to obtain the vote through Congressional resolution. -
First State to Adopt Amendment
Colorado is the first state to adopt an amendment granting women the right to vote. The women continue to go state by state to convince the rest of the states to also adopt the amendment. Slowly, but surely women are now starting to receive the rights that they should of already of had. -
Rights for Colored Women
African American women were also involved in reform efforts during the Progressive Era. During the Progressive Era, many important changes occurred in the lives of black women. Hundreds of thousands migrated from the South to the North and from rural to urban areas. In addition, many black women moved from employment in agriculture to employment in factories and as domestic servants. They also faced sexism, black women also faced institutional racism and overtly violent acts of racism. -
Working Conditions / Wages
The National Women's Trade Union League is established to advocate for improved wages and working conditions for women. They are not receiving the same opportunities that men are getting. They get treated as less than men, they face sexism. Also, they are paid less which is not fair. -
More States Adopt the Amendment
The following states have now also adopted the amendment Utah, Idaho, Washington State, California, Oregon, Kansas, and Arizona. Soon multiple states had also adopted the amendment which meant that many more women were now receiving the right that then always should of. -
New York City Suffrage Parade
The suffrage parade was a new development in the fight for women's suffrage in the United States. Some embraced the parade as a way of publicizing their cause. The parade united women of different social and economic backgrounds. All women supported each other to accomplish their goal. -
Women Get Arrested for Protesting at White House
Arrests of the National Woman’s party picketers begin on charges of obstructing sidewalk traffic. Subsequent picketers are sentenced to up to six months in jail. They release the picketers in response to public outcry and an inability to stop National Woman’s Party picketers’ hunger strike. -
Women Show Up At White House
National Woman’s Party picketers appear in front of the White House holding two banners, “Mr. President, What Will You Do For Woman Suffrage?” and “How Long Must Women Wait for Liberty?” -
Full Voting Rights
Three quarters of the state legislatures ratify the Nineteenth Amendment. American Women win full voting rights. Women now have the right to vote and have finally accomplished their goal. Hard work pays off even after all the time it took. If you want something you must go after it. -
Amendment is Passed
The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, is signed into law by Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby. All women now have the power to vote if they desire to. They now have this right after protesting and campaigning for a long period of time. Hard work paid off and they have now accomplished what they wanted.
