Women's Suffrage

  • The Convention of Women's Rights was held.

    The convention of women’s right was held in Seneca Falls, New York. This convention was held by two abolitionists, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Lucretia and Elizabeth were the founders of the American Women’s Right Movement. They discussed how women should be equally treated under the law and voting rights.
  • The first National Women's Rights Convention takes place in Worcester, attracting more than 1,000 participants.

  • Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton held an organization called the National Women Suffrage Association.

    Their goal was to add an amendment to the constitution for women’s right to vote
  • Wyoming was the first state to allow women to vote.

  • The National Women Suffrage Association and the American Women Suffrage Association came together to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association, also known as NAWSA.

  • The National Association of Colored Women was formed which brought more than 150 black women’s leagues. This organization was founded by Mrs. Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin.

  • The National Women’s Trade Union League (WTUL) was established/

    WTUL was established to improve wages and working conditions for women.
  • Susan B. Anthony wrote the women suffrage amendment and it was passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate . It was then sent to be ratified.

  • The 19th Amendment to the Constitution

    The 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote and was signed into law by Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby.
