    Women in Manitoba are the first in Canada to gain the right to vote and run for office in Provincial Elections when the Manitoba Legislative Assembly Manitoba passes an act to amend the Manitoba Election Act
  • Bluebirds Case

    Women called Bluebirds served in a total of thirty military hospitals and casualty clearing stations in France, Belgium, Greece, Malta and Eastern Mediterranean. 3,000 single Canadian women had left their home and volunteered to serve their country by caring for the wounded and sick overseas
  • The Persons Case

    five Alberta women fought a legal and political battle to have women recognized as persons. The decision made by the British Privy Council, the highest level for legal appeals in Canada at the time, was a Massive victory for the rights of women in Canada since they said yes.

    The first female RCMP recruits begin training at Regina.
  • Section 35 Constitution Act

    This recognizes and affirms existing Aboriginal rights, but does not define them. Section 35 also recognizes that Aboriginal rights are “existing.” The Supreme Court of Canada has stated that this means that any Aboriginal rights that had been taken away by treaty or other legal processes prior to 1982 no longer existed
