    In Seneca Falls, New York the world's first women's rights convention took place. There was a Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions that was debated and ended up getting signed by 32 men and 68 women. This is what starts up the women's rights movement.

    The legislature passed a new constitution that gave women the right to own property, businesses, to make contracts, and to sue in court without a husband's permission.

    The vote for women's suffrage loses 34 to 16 and 25 senators choose not to vote. This is the only time in the 19th-century women's suffrage is voted on.

    Between 5,000 to 8,000 suffragists parade the streets in Washington DC. This brings down the number of people who were rushing to see the new president Woodrow Wilson arrive. A few days later the largest suffragist parade takes place in New York City.

    168 National Women's Party members were arrested for having a peaceful protest outside the White House. These women were the first political prisoners. The women were thrown in jail and they had hunger strikes which caused them to be force-fed. The public was outraged and so eventually they were let out without a pardon.
