Women in the Workplace

  • Mother Jones

    Mother Jones
Mary Harris Jones contributed a lot to the work force for both men and women. More for women but her mindset on the workplace is something that should be viewed and studied by many. As a business management major, the relationship you have with your employees is very important. Mother Jones saw this first hand while working for a sewing business. No one cared for each other and she took it upon herself to not only fix how the work place is ran, but also fought for equality in the workplace.
  • "We Can Do It" Rosie the Riveter

"We Can Do It" Rosie the Riveter
This is a famous piece of propaganda during the time that women were just starting to join the work force which is around 1942 during WWII. This poster was studied during our class this semester and the message that it sends to women is to rise up and know that as women, WE CAN DO IT TOO! This gave women hope that its not gonna be easy but can be done and this poster was proof of that future.
  • History on Women and Gender equality in thew workplace

History on Women and Gender equality in thew workplace
When looking back at the history of how things came about and how not only women but women of color took a step into making things right! Women like Shirley Chisholm who spoke out publicly for equal rights as women and for people of color.
  • How are women viewed during this time? 1954-1980

How are women viewed during this time? 1954-1980
Women during this time were booming as many started to join the workforce. If women decided to continue after school to pursue a job they would be faced with a big decision and stereotype on how to balance being a house wife with kids and all to take care of. During these times women were expected to stay home and this was the case for a while. Associations such as The American Association of University Women stood beside president John F. Kennedy while he signed the Equal Pay Act Law in 1963.
  • Women in the Military

    Women in the Military
Another Topic talked about in our class is women in the Military. My initial thought about this would be that women especially would get the most respect but even as a soldier, women are not treated equally in this field of work. They are still sexually harassed and are forced to keep "silent" because little is done according to women currently enlisted that had been previously harassed or even raped. The first group of women to be admitted into the military was in 1976. Loretta Walsh in 1917.
  • Women taking on higher roles

    Women taking on higher roles
When looking at today, women have been taking on higher roles in many workplaces. They are also going to school much longer than men and pursuing careers that men should be filling but are falling short on. Pretty soon women will be the standard and we will see a switch in some roles for men and women.
  • Positions that women empower over men

Positions that women empower over men
When we look at this topic the opposite way where women are taking over the industry or workplace is medical fields. Men who are in this field also have the same chances to get to the position they want to be but from personal experience rather it be pharmacy or even at the hospital there is a lot more women than men in this field. Men who are in this field i feel have a stigma against them because the field is tainted as "this is for women" and that is both good and bad.
  • Equal pay?

    Equal pay?
This plays a huge role in equality back then and even today. This topic is a bit more touchy but stats have confirmed that on average women make less than men on a weekly basis working full time. Pay equality and gender equality go hand in hand simply because we can see that women are unfortunately paid less because they are women.
  • The disadvantage

    The disadvantage
What employers tend to say about women trying to move into higher positions is that they will leave sooner than a male would. Or they may have a life changing event such as a baby. With a male if a baby is brought into the picture they don't technically have leave for that. Women do and that can be the time where a replacement can be found and how women in higher positions do lose their job. Sad but true reality.
  • My experiences

    My experiences
Women in the workplace for me have always been respected. However, when looking at this from a historical perspective women in the workplace have been disrespected, mis-placed- and looked down on.
