    Thought to have started in 776 B.C or ealier, this event was started because Greek women were not allowed to participate nor watch the Olympic games. There was a group of sixteen women that competed in honor of the Greek goddess Hera. The main event was a footrace that was made one sixth shoter than the men's race. Winners won olive branches, self portraits, and various meats.
